In the picture, the author depicted the slope of the Volga, illuminated by golden rays of the sun. The viewer is presented with a small coastal town. The canvas depicts the sunset of summer. So, the sun has already begun to set, and its rays brightly illuminate the surface of the river.
In the foreground, we see a coastal slope covered with burnt grass. Closer to the river the forest is spread. A little further there is a path leading to buildings. It is a small house built of white stone and has a red tiled roof, as well as a church and a bell tower. They bring a special charm and serenity to the landscape. Still further in the haze of the approaching evening, more houses are visible. Most of the town’s buildings are hidden by trees and dense bushes.
Due to the presence of sunlight on the water surface, it seems that the river is not water at all, but liquid gold. The Volga seems endless, as the author portrayed all its natural strength and power. The majestic expanse of this landscape is awe-inspiring.
In the background, the other side of the river is captured. It is already a little hidden by the haze of sunset, its entire appearance and outline have merged into a single bluish-purple spot. The bank drooped in anticipation of the approaching night, which would soon spread to the town on the other side of the river.
The canvas is filled with silence and tranquility. The quiet flow of water and the calm sunset evoke the most pleasant impressions and memories from childhood. The author amazingly realistically depicts the entire palette of a summer sunset, all the diverse beauties of summer nature.
